Why Sit On The Ground? Folding Camping Chairs To The Rescue!

Folding Camping Chairs

One of the most basic - yet often overlooked - pieces of camping gear is the folding camping chair. As any experienced camper will tell you, it gets pretty uncomfortable after a while sitting on a log or tree stump. Even worse? Sitting on the wet, damp, insect-infested ground. Forget it! Why would ANYONE want to sit on the ground, when you can get a good-quality folding camping chair - a camper's essential, I tell you.

When selecting a folding camping chair, you need to consider the weight issue. This takes on several dimensions. The first is, of course, the weight of the person who will be sitting on the chair. Note carefully any weight limitations, and don't exceed them. For the overweight, there are folding camping chairs that have been specially designed to hold larger sizes. I have seen some models for sale around $120 USD, which is a very good price.

Another area where weight comes into the picture is the weight of the folding camping chair itself. Why might this be important? Well, if you are doing a lot of hiking and want to take a camping chair along with you, then you will need to select a low-weight unit, as you will have to carry it in all the way on your back or shoulder. These ultra-light folding camping chairs are also great for use at the beach and concerts where no seating has been provided.

If you will be sitting on your folding camping chair for an extended length of time - perhaps for several hours - then you need to make sure that your chair has adequate padding in the seat and back, and support for your back, arms and neck as well. One major problem with the ultra-light models is that they are designed with a minimum of padding and support, and so are suitable only for sitting for short periods.

One thing you should certainly do: at least once or twice a year you should carefully inspect your folding camping chair for signs of wear. In particular, you should inspect the metal frame for signs of bowing, bending, or metal fatigue - if the frame has been damaged, don't try to fix it - buy a new chair and be safe. Also inspect the fabric used in your folding camping chair, and replace the chair if the fabric is tearing or wearing - especially where it is connected to the chair frame, as well as around the seat. Again, be safe and replace the chair - repaired fabrics will sometimes tear again where the repair was made, causing your chair to be unsafe to sit in.
